Chef Shimizu of the Kitagawa Hayuma Restaurant at the roadside station spent six months creating "three goldfish" carved from styrofoam, which are now on display at the restaurant entrance.

Chef Shimizu, who is originally skilled in ice sculpture, created "Three Goldfish" to commemorate the 30th anniversary of the opening of Michi-no-Eki Kitagawa Hayuma, the 10th anniversary of the establishment of Nobeoka Michi-no-Eki, and the 1st anniversary of Michi-no-Eki Kitagawa Hayuma being designated as a disaster-prevention Michi-no-Eki.
