We have received a shipment of pawpaws again this year.

~The following is an excerpt from "Tropical Fruit Net"~

Pawpaw, also known as akebigaki, resembles the akebi fruit in shape. It has a unique tropical fruit aroma, and its flesh is buttery and sticky, with a strong sweetness that tastes like a mix of persimmon and banana. Because of these characteristics, it is also called "the custard cream of the forest." Around 1945, pawpaws were a common fruit, but because they ripen faster than other fruits and do not keep well, there are now very few farmers in Japan that cultivate them, making them a "phantom fruit." It is rich in nutrients and has an excellent amino acid balance, and is said to be popular as a beauty food in the United States.
